I started my own business, Paper Locket, 10 years ago, when I decided to give up the corporate world and work primarily from home to be with my children. Over the years Paper Locket has progressively evolved with the times - preserving other's memories in an artful way used to be with paper products - now it's done with the powerful help of digital technology. I now spend my creative working time on the computer artistically altering digital photos into cards, books and artist canvases.
It's extremely rewarding when I'm able to replace typical store-bought greeting cards and mass produced wall art with meaningful photos and memories. We can and we should be filling our walls and loved one's mailboxes with heirloom art pieces. Besides our custom oversized photo postcards, the most innovative addition to our product line is our digitally designed artist canvases. After going through the Snohomish Incubator with Allison, and five other amazing women, I left with a clearer and more energetic "self". One of the most compelling homework assignments was when we were asked to describe each other's voice in a few words. So I can always be reminded of "my voice", and my dear new inspiring friends, I've put their words onto one of my digitally created artist canvases to hang on my wall next to my creative space. The words and definitions describing me are so extremely powerful that I didn't want to JUST file them away. This is the voice I need to believe in everyday.
